Development of zebrafish epidermis.

چکیده
Zebrafish epidermal ionocytes are analogous to mammalian kidney cells in terms of expression and function of ion transporters. In this review, we summarize current findings about the development of the zebrafish epidermis and demonstrate how the zebrafish regulate stress acclimation through induction of cell differentiation. In addition, cellular homologies between zebrafish epidermal ionocytes and mammalian kidney cells are presented to show the potential of zebrafish epidermis as an in vivo model to study the development and function of mammalian cells.

Basal Keratinocytes Contribute to All Strata of the Adult Zebrafish Epidermis
The epidermis of terrestrial vertebrates is a stratified epithelium and forms an essential protective barrier. It is continually renewed, with dead corneocytes shed from the surface and replaced from a basal keratinocyte stem cell population. Whilst mouse is the prime model system used for epidermal studies, there is increasing employment of the zebrafish to analyse epidermis development and ho...
متن کاملZebrafish keratin 8 is expressed at high levels in the epidermis of regenerating caudal fin.
Cytokeratins are structural proteins of the intermediate filament family and are mainly expressed in epithelial cells. In several vertebrates it has been shown that keratin 8 is expressed in simple epithelial tissues, some non-epithelial tissue and in hyper-proliferative tissues during development and tumor transformation. We previously cloned and characterised the zebrafish (Danio rerio) homol...
متن کاملLgl2 and E-cadherin act antagonistically to regulate hemidesmosome formation during epidermal development in zebrafish.
The integrity and homeostasis of the vertebrate epidermis depend on various cellular junctions. How these junctions are assembled during development and how their number is regulated remain largely unclear. Here, we address these issues by analysing the function of Lgl2, E-cadherin and atypical Protein kinase C (aPKC) in the formation of hemidesmosomes in the developing basal epidermis of zebra...
متن کاملZebrafish penner/lethal giant larvae 2 functions in hemidesmosome formation, maintenance of cellular morphology and growth regulation in the developing basal epidermis.
Epithelial cells are equipped with junctional complexes that are involved in maintaining tissue architecture, providing mechanical integrity and suppressing tumour formation as well as invasiveness. A strict spatial segregation of these junctional complexes leads to the polarisation of epithelial cells. In vertebrate epithelia, basally localised hemidesmosomes mediate stable adhesion between ep...
متن کاملThe development of the paired fins in the Zebrafish (Danio rerio)
In the present study, we describe the structure and normal development of the zebrafish (Danio rerio) paired fins. Particularly, we focus on the structure of the apical epidermis and on endoskeletal morphogenesis. Endoskeletal development proceeds differently in the pectoral and pelvic fins. Whereas in both fins major parts of the endoskeletal girdle develop within the fin bud mesenchyme, the p...
